The Dancer

This tiny 4" x 5" etching is entitled Winter Blues and incorporates one of Leonardo da Vinci's sketches with an old set of dental x-rays. Yes, the resemblance to my own palate is somewhat uncanny. : ) (I suppose one might consider this to be "Leonardo's Lament".) The poetry dates back to, well, let's just say it's been around awhile. The image and poem (The Dancer) simply seem to be a perfect match for each other.

Deep in the fury of the storm
          lies the promise of desire.
Unknowingly, I reach for you,
          adding kindling to the fire.

Your presence echoes through the night,
          as darkness whispers sweet despair.
Numbness thaws, the pain subsides.
I turn around to find you there.

          All is none.
          None is all.
          And so it is
          I dance to fall.
          On silver beams,
          the tears, they land.
          In midnight flight,
          A lover's hand.

In fetal form my body curls,
my heart, it trembles, frightened still.
The tears that once could not cry out,
in silent prayer an ocean fill...
